Lifecycle Fitness

“For us it’s about passion not about making money,” reveals Lifecycle Fitness’s Ryan ‘Whippet’ Clark. “The biggest thing is being there. We are not hiding behind the people we pay, we want to be in amongst it keeping it real.”

Run by Clark – a Bondi lifeguard and once Sam Marshall of Home & Away fame, Matt Garry – personal trainer to Rupert Murdoch for six years in New York and Trent Langlands, Lifecycle opened its doors a little over five years ago and has built an enviable reputation since.

This trio of fitness experts, who in bouts of supreme effort regularly push each other to sickness, enjoy putting their bodies on the line. Their first group session commences at 05:00 with the day finishing at dusk. The motivation and commitment of their clients often gets them through the long days. “The coolest thing is witnessing transformations like the 30-day challenges, seeing results which have changed people’s lives,” continues Bronte-born Ryan.

Their approach is social, with a personal touch aimed at fulfilling their clients’ objectives a core focus. “‘We want everyone to come in and give it their all. It’s not about being the fittest nor the fastest but about giving 100%. From our side we are all very different in how we deliver sessions.”

Fitness by nature is progress, something which must extend to the business itself. “It’s a never-ending cycle,” continues Ryan. “We try to keep up by always being better. The more we learn, the more we can pass on to our clients. We’re always looking for the newest and most functional training techniques. However, when we get new equipment, we stagger it in.”

Social media – notably Instagram and Facebook – has helped. Word of mouth is a significant draw. “We live locally and have a good understanding of what local people want. Social media has been important, people can see their friends train, share opinions, and it attracts new clients.”

“Bronte has everything,” closes Ryan. “I grew up here, all my mates are here, it’s pretty hard to see myself living anywhere else.” The hardworking and effervescent guys at Lifecycle Fitness will continue to be part of the local landscape for the foreseeable future. They recently bought out Fresh Fitness with plans to relocate on Bronte Road within the next year. Progress.
