Dreams come true at Orchard Street which prides itself as Australia’s only organic, environmentally conscious and holistic juice cleanse provider.
“I always had a vision in my head about Orchard Street, this space in Bronte as well as those now in Bondi and Paddington,” explains owner and founder Kirsten Shanks. “I wanted a little apothecary. The juice cleanses provided the momentum to bring this to life.”
Kirsten is a veritable globalista; raised between Malaysia and New Zealand, she has travelled extensively, resided in Manhattan – on the original Orchard Street – and studied traditional medicines and healing practices in Guatemala, India, Mexico, North America and Spain. She fell in love with Sydney and a Sydneysider – her husband James – when she first moved to Australia at aged 19. On her return she has established roots in every sense.
Orchard St. is a natural expression of Kirsten’s outlook on life, one driven by a passion to share her knowledge of wellness, her transparency, honesty and integrity. Hers is an environment which fosters a genuine local spirit, as natural and true as its juices, where customers engage not only with Kirsten and her team but each other. Beyond the confines of its practices, Orchard Street has enjoyed notable success on social media extending the notion of wellness and community beyond its store fronts.
Kirsten’s worldly spirit is reflected in Orchard Street’s tantalising recipes and concoctions comprising anti-inflammatory dosais, Mexican Mole Chili and chakra salad through to its signature juices and wealth of botanic teas and nutritious nut milks.
Coming from a large family, comprised largely of chefs and nurses, it is fitting Kirsten has found a vocation which nestles neatly between these two trades. It was during her mother’s recovery from cancer that she explored juice’s healing modality. Family is a core component of her business, where she can count on the support of James and close family and friends. “We have an incredible team and everyone has supported me to bring it to life.”
Creating Orchard Street has been a challenging journey. During the first seven months of the business’s life Kirsten didn’t take a day off. As all successful entrepreneurs will testify, sacrifice is an integral part of realising one’s dreams.
